ASUU strike: Students beg FG for quick resolution

ASUU strike: Students beg FG for quick resolution

November 22, 2016
ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi

Some students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka have appealed to the Federal Government to urgently look into grievances of striking lecturers to forestall incessant strikes in universities.

The students made the appeal in Nsukka on Tuesday while reacting to the ongoing warning strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The President of the Students Union Government in the university, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwu, pleaded with President Muhammad Buhari to urgently resolve the crisis between the Federal Government and ASUU.

Chukwu said that this had become necessary in order to prevent disruption in the academic calendar of universities in the country.

Miss Amarachi Okafor of the Department of Psychology urged the Federal Government to dialogue with ASUU not to allow the strike snowballed into an indefinite one.

Okafor also pleaded with ASUU to consider the plight of students who would be spending extra years in the university, especially in this period of recession.

She said, “The longer the strike lingers, the more the rate of crimes will increase and parents will be paying more for extra years spent in school.”

Another student, Mr Emmanuel Ochi of Mass Communication Department pleaded with ASUU to consider the interest of students in order not to constitute a setback to their academics.

She said, “I want the Federal Government and ASUU to resolve their misunderstanding amicably in the interest of students and tertiary education in this country.

“Students have suffered enough over incessant strikes and we do not want a repeat of what happened in the last administration by ASUU.”

Academic activities have continued to be paralysed at the UNN over the warning strike by ASUU.

The chairman of UNN-ASUU chapter, Dr. Ifeanyi Abada, said that academic activities were grounded in the university in compliance with the directive by the National Executive Committee of ASUU.

He said, “NEC made efforts to resolve this issue with government but it remained unyielding because of its insensitivity to issues concerning education.

“Since government failed to do the needful, ASUU is left with no option than to proceed on a one week warning strike and failure to meet with our demands we will go on an indefinite strike.”

Abada said that ASUU was not taking it lightly with government on issues raised, especially the demand that universities be exempted from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.

He said, “The strike compliance in UNN is total, no lectures, no examinations no departmental and faculty meetings as members will not participate.

UNN chapter will not renege on the directive of the national body till government addresses all the issues raised.

“Our monitoring team is moving round and any lecturer found teaching will be sanctioned accordingly.”

♣THE JOURNEY IS SO SHORT ♣

THE JOURNEY IS SO SHORT♣

A young lady sat in a public transport: an old grumpy lady came and sat by her as she bumped into her with her numerous bags. The other neighbor got upset, asking the young lady why she did not protest and insist on her rights: she responded with a smile: 'It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant!' I'll alight at the next stop, replied the young lady.

Here's a response which deserves to be written in golden letters in our daily behaviour and everywhere:
*It is not necessary to argue over something so insignificant, our journey together is so short*

If each one could realize that our passage down here has such a short duration, to darken it with futile arguments would be a waste of time and energy.

Did someone break your heart? Be calm, the journey is so short!!

Did someone betray, bully or humiliate you? Be calm, the journey is so short!!

Whatever penalty anyone serves us, let's remember that the journey together is so short...

Let us therefore be filled with sweetness. Sweetness is a virtue never likened to bad character nor cowardice, but better likened to greatness.

Our journey together down here is really short and cannot be reversed...
No one knows the duration of his journey!!

No one knows if he has to alight at the next stop!!

*Let us therefore be calm!! If I've hurt you, I ask your forgiveness. But remember: The journey down here is so short!!*
That's what I believe.

A Tangible Information From The Table Of Hon.Abdullahi Ahmed Bolakale

Of the greatest parliamentarian!!!!!! Great!!!!!!! This is to bring to the notice of all the entire distinguished KWCOEDITES both the returning students and the freshers that the school management and its co-executive, have implored and urged all their students who are yet to have any BANK ACCOUNT or who had had it before but it has been unfortunately disfunction, to kindly go to any BANK of thier choice to open a valid savings account which will enable them to be transacting directly themselves with their ATM card especially the new intakes that wanted to pay for their JAMB ADMISSION LETTER. This has been made so esiest for the entire students who are interested in this, as school herself has welcomed and given room for some BANKS to come into the school for this paramount and crucial  purpose. Thus, banks like UNITY.BANK, FCMB.BANK and the likes are now on the campus for the registration of your account. Please make sure you grab this very meaningful and cogent opportunity because it was said that christmas comes but once. And that is why an opportunity lost, cannever be regained.

From the  Table  of distinguished speaker, HONOURABLE ABDULLAHI HAMED BOLAKE humbly care!!!

A Word of Advice To All Ladies...Read Carefully

Dear Technical Support,
Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to
Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow
down in overall system performance —
particularly in the flower and jewelry
applications, which operated flawlessly under
Boyfriend 5.0. The new program also began
making unexpected changes to the
accounting modules.
In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many
other valuable programs, such as Romance
9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then
installed undesirable programs such as NFL
5.0, NBA 3.0, and Golf Clubs 4.1.
Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and
Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.
I’ve tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these
problems, but to no avail.
What can I do?
Signed,
Desperate
——————————————————–
Dear Desperate:
First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an
Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is
an Operating System.
Please enter the command: I THOUGHT YOU
LOVED ME” and try to download Tears 6.2 and
don’t forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed,
Husband 1.0 should then automatically run
the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5.
But remember, overuse of the above
application can cause Husband 1.0 to default
to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0 or Beer
6.1.
Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will
download the Snoring Loudly Beta.
Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-
law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that
will eventually seize control of all your system
resources).
Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend
5.0 program. These are unsupported
applications and will crash Husband 1.0.
In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program,
but it does have limited memory and cannot
learn new applications quickly.
You might consider buying additional
software to improve memory and
performance. We recommend Food 3.0 and
Hot Lingerie 7.7.
Good Luck.

A Powerful Write up From A Fedpoffa Student About Ojoku Day Anniversary

What's next?
Is celebration what's next?
Before a celebration Can took place, there must be a tangible or reasonable for it. Is it a new development that brought a celebration or new company in our land that we are celebrating
Ojoku was never the best and next step for a village that continue to remain in the same look even after decades, this yearly celebration never have developmental or economical advantage on this blessed land. Or are we talking about like 3 or 4days boom in the town and after those days the ones lousy and lively town will went to sleep till next year, or are we talking about the land that's tasty of young bones but full of elderly peoples and fulanis who are managing the town when the owners went away till another ojoku day, ask some reasonable elders in the town how hard and sad they are seeing virtually only aged fellow roaming the town, I witness a scenario when the tiles in a mosque around obeles compound has already been decaying because it's only aged people worshiping there and no strength for them to clean it up, and I never go alone I was with an outsider and was mocked like it was more than that, I was ashamed because am Part of those who cause that, since I was born I have never live in ojoku for a week than when I was an infant which I was told
Can we just stop the altitude of running to Lagos after we are done with school cert?
Is this the same town that has produced Rep, senator, director, get al but their father land remain in the same shape of it's ancient look? We are all guilty of the problem and it's duty of me and you to collectively find solutions to it in a shorter possible time
Ojoku day is not the next and best thing now, why can't we use the money we are giving away to saheed osupa that will add nothing to life and look of the town than to that of Lagos base who will be only proud of hearing their name in the record?
We will build it ourselves, nobody will do it than me and you
May Almighty Allah bless and protect us all

NON PAYMENT OF SIWES ALLOWANCE: NANS CALLS FOR ITF PROBE AND IMMEDIATE PAYMENT

NON PAYMENT OF SIWES ALLOWANCE: NANS CALLS FOR ITF PROBE AND IMMEDIATE PAYMENT

The Office of the Senate President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) writes, first and foremost, to categorically condemn the continued non payment of SIWES Allowance to students who had participated in the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) from 2010 - 2015 by the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).

Secondly, the Office of the Senate President, NANS, writes to demand for the full probe of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for non payment of ITF stipends to students from 2010 - 2015.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), upon carrying out an extensive and rigorous investigation across various institutions in Nigeria, wishes to state in unequivocal terms that evidences exist beyond reasonable doubt that there is a systemic and endemic fraud being perpetuated at the ITF National Headquarters,Jos, Plateau State in partnership with the respective ITF offices in each state of the federation.

During the course of the nationwide investigation carried out by the Office of the Senate President, NANS, evidences/documents were obtained showing approval and disbursement of fund for the payment of SIWES Allowance for 2010 - 2015 SIWES set of students by the Federal Government.

The various ITF offices in each state of the federation has, over the years, been diverting hard earned stipend which students are entitled to under the pretense of 'inaccurate bank details' submitted by the students. This illegality is in connivance with the various commercial banks anchoring the SIWES Allowance payment. We call on the EFCC to also beam the agency's searchlight on all banks handling the payment of SIWES Allowance to Nigerian students. Any bank found culpable in this unethical practice should be duly sanctioned.

Furthermore, the Office of the Senate President, NANS, also discovered instances of SIWES Allowance being lodged with the ITF office, Jos, Plateau State. This is a well calculated attempt to divert, loot, and siphon the only form of subsidy being enjoyed by Nigerian students by the top echelons of ITF.

There is no moral justification, nor financial analogy for the non payment of SIWES Allowance to Nigerian students. We call on the ITF to learn from the swift, clean and efficient payment portal deployed by NYSC in the payment of monthly Corps members allowance with little or no fuss.

There should be a collaborative, cooperative, productive and positive synergy between various Ministries and MDAs of the Federal Government for effective implementations of various policies to better the lives of the Nigerian students and masses.

NANS finds it unacceptable, unpalatable, unprofessional and corruption-riddled if the process of payment of ITF/SIWES Allowance takes an average of THREE years from disbursement by the Federal Government to receipt by students!

NANS finds it unpatriotic on the part of the ITF as an agency and top ITF officials bringing this untoward hardship on Nigerian students for any student not to get paid for his/her complete the 6-month of I.T. scheme.

Finally, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is giving a two-week ultimatum to the ITF for the immediate commencement of payment of all outstanding SIWES Allowance from 2010 - 2015. Failure to commence the payment will leave us with no choice than to mobilise across all campuses in each state to stage a coordinated protest at the various ITF offices in every state to air our grievances over the non payment of the SIWES Allowance. The association would not hesitate to fully activate our nationwide mobilisation machineries to stage a grand protest at the ITF National Headquarter, Jos, Plateau State.

Signed:
Comrade Bamigbade Taiwo 'Egalitarian'
Senate President,
National Association of Nigerian Students

MY FATHER DON ENTER ONE-CHANCE:

My uncle joined Facebook two week ago. That is not the story. Ever since he did, I have been having headache censoring what to post and comment on. That is also not the gist.
The story is that he called me this morning and started complaining to
me saying: “kunle, this Facebook registration dey chop money oh”. Hmm? “Big daddy I no understand… how?” I asked curiously.
He sighed and complained: “Since wey I tell Ayanfe, your sister to register me for Facebook, na so-so money I dey spend” I became even more curious about his meaning of 'spending' to register on Facebook. So I asked him: “She bin no subscribe for MB before registering you?” he raised eyebrows and said: “Ha! which one be MB again? I hope say she no go come collect another money for that one? Because I don pay N8,000 for chatting permit, N10,000 for friend request fee, N3,000 for posting fee, N6,000 for profile picture permit and this evening again, your sister don talk say Facebook say make I bring N5,000 for international Facebook passport. kunledon tire, na so una dey spend money for This thing?”
Please what should I tell my my uncle right now??

OPERATION E NI GBO ,AWA NAA O NI GBA...LED BY THE AMIABLE SUG PRESIDENT SENATOR ALAGBEDE

Today! The exercise was launched at the early hours of Today..Following the meeting between the SUG executives and the owners of the business centers outside the school gate which didn't yield any POSITIVE result.
The Sug President has pleaded with the owners of the business centers outside the school gate to reduce the amount being charged for payment of school fees payment which some of them were charging a thousand naira while some 500 naira, but they refused to comply with the agreement which gave birth to the decision taken by the Students Union Government Kwara Coed chapter, that since the business centers in the school complex has complied that they will be charging 200 naira per school fees payment and necessary print outs will be printed for the students. so henceforth all students should neglect and desert the outsiders and should start patronising the people in the school complex for better service. The mobilization volunteers have started working today by mobilizing students most especially the freshers who are just coming in so they wouldn't fall in the wrong hands.
A man who introduced himself as the business centers chairman called Al fati, during an interview claimed that he sat one on one with the provost to discuss the issue and they have both agreed that the students should be paying 300 naira per card transaction and without card they should be paying 400 naira. But the Sug President claimed the provost told him 200 naira per card transaction so the two sides are contradicting each other living the masses in confusion. We are yet to see the provost to listen to his own side of the story.
A man also, who is popularly known as Alfa outside the school gate also admitted that they are adding an increment of a thousand naira to the school fees payment, saying they have to print almost 6 print outs and he could only mention exam clearance, screening for the returning students.. Saying they cannot bring down the price either we like it or not, he included that they are not working for the students and are not paying to the school but paying to the local government..
So students are hereby advised to visit the school complex for any transaction from now on..
1st picture:The Alfa charging 1 Thousand naira per payment.
2nd picture: The signed school fees payment print out by the management..
3rd Picture: Unsigned, Fake school fees payment print out by the business centers outside the school gate.
More details about the school fees coming up soon.....

A MESSAGE TO THE ENTIRE FEDPOFFA S.U.G EXECUTIVES AND SCHOOL MANAGEMENT

If someone were to ask me, I'd say the FEDPOFFA S.U.G Director for Media and Publicity needs to get himself more acquainted with the laws of English grammar and the general ethics of writing public messages. I believe he's supposed to write for the students of an higher institution and not pupils of school for the disabled. Its obvious he's becoming a fanfaron who now writes for his self aggrandizement and that of the Union President thereby forgetting their onus of responsibilities.

MY OPINION

We've had enough of university students who constantly thinks students of Polytechnics are all the less privileged summed up and the academically unencouraging people rounded up to further help them get successfully integrated into the human society.

It breaks my heart that this appalling writeup will spread out to the World as one that speaks on behalf of the FEDPOFFA Students Union Government Executives and the whole students of our noble citadel of learning.

I propose an agitation for an amendment to further improve on the standard of prerequisites for our leaders in various leadership offices. We've had enough of people hiding behind 'Aluta Jargons' which has not been aiding our communication skills in the formal world. Its high time we start paving way for not only the literacy improvements from our lecture theatres but also that which spreads to the entire world through each of our lives for our future is determined by the who we are and the decisions we make today.

I hereby charge our Students Union Body to at least start building a good name for the school by ensuring that every official message of notification from either the school management or Students Union Government is officially constructed to best fit into world best standard.

I hope someone will see from my perspective today and share this till it gets to the entire S.U.G executives at large.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE SUG PRESIDENT FROM A 300 LEVEL STUDENT,AGITATING FOR THE SCHOOL FEES..READ AND COMMENT..

What is the world turning into?
When you are Given the post of an HAWK ,and unfortunately YOU FAILED TO PICK A CHICK...
I will also say my own even thou I know I will also be summoned concerning this article..
Why the hell would the SUG President.(Sen.Alagbede) denied not aware of the current situation and the advice given out by a GALLANT ALUTARIAN yesterday concerning the hike in the school fees being released recently.. All in the name of fear, when you know you can't stand up for the masses why take up the post ? As at 2014 academic season year 1 school fees was 38,900 then, year 2 paid less than that, while the year 3 students also did the same .as at 2015 academic season it began going up even thou the administration then(GBODOFU LED) was also not capable enough to do anything then.. Now we are here, instead of going down still no changes bt increment. We all understand what's going on in Nigeria right now ,where do you expect us to see all this money demanded? After paying the fees,we still going to pay almost 3000 naira for different types of receipts.so what are you all doing? Please wake up from slumber. Let your eyes be opened widely and fight for the right of the masses who voted for you without being scared of any one.. If you remain loyal and faithful.. Peoples prayers will always be your shield against anybody strike against you.. Mr president and the management we students are in pains just as our parents (Lecturers) are in pain..put yourselves in our shoes, you were not being paid salary and the little you are even earning from a petty business is not even enough for the family 3 meals a day, your wards came home telling you our school fees is out and it's 45k , imagine what would be your response to such child ,many parents are withdrawing their children in school all because they couldn't afford the money demanded, remember if we are not fully trained we are the leaders of tomorrow. How would you feel I'm future when your children are being lectured by a lecturer or teacher who did not finish receiving the norms and values which is expected he/she is expected to have earned in nce all because he couldn't afford the money,
Please and please help us out so God can help you too...
I have a lot to say but, this is all for now..
